Is it rhythmic gymnastics or politics?
A friend asked me about what happens with Bulgaria in Baku meaning the first competition day. "What happened to Bulgarian group? I don't understand", wrote the friend.
Here is my reply, which only applies to Group Bulgaria. In my opinion, regarding the individual gymnasts, there are some things which need to be done internally, despite the external factors, towards equal opportunities and fair play.
I don't follow the world cup in Baku, because I was a little busy yesterday, but also lack the internal drive for it this time. According to comments in Bulgaria on Facebook, the judging is in question, especially regarding Group Bulgaria on 5 balls routine so far. Iliana Raeva has pointed at D3-4 and the scoring of judges from the USA and Finland in particular:
Fans are talking about international plots involving some countries and Mr. Morinari Watanabe, the head of FIG, which make things like those possible.
There was also something intriguing appeared recently, i.e this table comparing the difficulty of the strongest groups:
It looks like bidding: who will bid more, but then who will be able to perform comes next. Clean performance is only possible, if they can find effective combinations allowed by the rules that earn more, and at the same time don't take that much efforts. Another thing is where artistry will be...
Some political campaign taking place in Baku seems to me quite possible too; we'll see what will happen there today and tomorrow… And also in the coming ECh and WCh, which are also in Baku. If politics is going to prevail against RG, I'll just skip these major RG events in 2019 regarding scores and placement/medals, and will focus on performances, ie will selectively watch some videos from the competitions aftermaths with the hope such political campaigns can't last forever and with every host. Hopefully, the girls, their coaches and national RG management will be strong, self-confident, wise, and persistent to pass through those things. Belief will help all of us too.
